An Tilleadh :: The Return

An Tilleadh logo

An Tilleadh is our way of getting people who have roots and ancestry in Arisaig to come and visit the place where those roots were sunk.

The aim is to make what is known, real and human: to take people to the places where their forebears lived. To show them the remnants of houses, if they are still visible. To see the places people lived in, or left from. To understand the life as it was lived, a little better. Basically to welcome people to the place of their heritage.

We will do this by taking a subject such as a particular person, or a family, or an event, and research around it, gather what we know, and share the information with those who come to find out. This may include places, people, music, song, activity, walks, talks. Hopefully it will involve friendships in the making and reforming. And it could also involve a wee dram or two!

2010’s An Tilleadh focus is Alasdair MacMhaighstir Alasdair, the renowned bard from Acharacle, who lived and died in Arisaig. We will be having a walk on Rubh peninsula to see where he lived, as well as some other interesting things about him and the area. As the man was also known as the Clan Ranald bard we will also be visiting Castle Tioram, near Dalilea where he was born and brought up.

On Games day, we will be hearing from renowned speakers about the man and his work, its relevance at the time, and its relevance today.

2011’s An Tilleadh focus will be announced shortly, but it looks exciting!
